Amazon announced layoffs of 14,000 employees in an AI-driven reorganization, marking its largest job cuts since 2023, amid plans to spend over $100 billion this year to expand AWS compute capacity for AI services.
Despite layoffs, AWS remains the market leader in cloud infrastructure with around one-third market share but faces growing competition from Microsoft, which holds 20% cloud spend, and Google at 13%.
